Our top 5 upgrades for your shed

Our top 5 upgrades for your shed, and why they’re worth the investment

If you’re planning on building a new shed, you’ll quickly learn how many add-ons and options there are. It can easily become overwhelming.

Our team has compiled a list of the top 5 upgrades that are really worth your investment.

Sisalation

This reflective foil membrane sits under the roof and walls, bouncing radiant heat back out in summer and holding warmth in over winter, maintaining a more consistent temperature within your shed. It also stops condensation from forming on the underside of your roof sheets and dripping down onto tools, machinery, or whatever you’ve got stored below. If you’re serious about turning your shed into a space you can actually work in year-round, sisalation is one of the best-value upgrades you can invest in.

Vermaseal

Nobody wants to open up their shed to find mice, rats, or worse have moved in. Vermaseal seals the bottom edge of your wall sheeting, closing off the gaps where vermin typically sneak in. It has the added benefit of stopping wind, dust and driving rain from getting up under the cladding. It also isolates your sheeting from the concrete slab, protecting it from the corrosive effects of concrete contact, which means less early rust and a longer life for your shed. Vermaseal is installed at the time of construction, so it’s important to consider carefully prior to your build commencing. It’s not something that can be easily retrofitted at a later date.

Eaves

Eaves might seem like a small addition, but they do a lot of heavy lifting. By extending the roofline out from the walls, eaves keep rain off your cladding and door openings, reduce water pooling at the base of the shed and provide welcome shade that helps keep the interior of your shed cooler in summer. The addition of eaves is also an aesthetic choice, giving your shed a more traditional and refined look.

Windows

Often overlooked, windows can completely change how a shed feels to use. Natural light cuts down on the need for artificial lighting during the day, and a well-placed window or two opposite each other creates cross-ventilation that helps keep things cool without relying on fans. For sheds doing double duty as a workshop, studio or gym, windows are the difference between a dark storage box and a room you actually enjoy spending time in. High-set windows are a great option if you want the light and airflow without compromising security or wall space.

Automatic Door Openers

For anyone in and out of their shed multiple times a day or using the shed for vehicle storage, an automatic door opener is pure convenience. No more wrestling with a heavy roller door in the rain or getting out of the car or off the tractor just to let yourself in. It’s also a security upgrade, since automated doors are harder to force than a manual roller door. A small investment that pays off in daily ease of use.
