When Gavin first enquired in October 2024, he envisioned a refined outdoor entertaining space that would seamlessly connect two shipping containers forming his forever home. The brief was clear: a structure that offered year-round comfort, architectural consistency, and long-term durability, while providing the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and take in the spectacular views.
The space needed to deliver reliable weather protection without compromising a clean, modern aesthetic. Ceiling height, integrated lighting, and effective water management were critical considerations, alongside strict compliance with council and permit requirements.
From initial enquiry to final handover, this project followed a structured, collaborative process.
After preparing preliminary estimates and conducting a site visit in October 2024, Paul worked closely with Gavin over November and December to refine the project scope. A revised estimate and formal proposal were sent through in January 2025 and promptly accepted.
The final design featured a 5.6m x 6.1m Stratco Outback Cooldek Flat Roof with a 2.4m eave height, chosen for its insulated roofing profile, sleek finish, and superior thermal performance. The Cooldek system allowed for integrated electrical components, combining practicality with visual cohesion.
Key specifications included:
- Outback Edge 160 gutter system
- 75mm PVC downpipes
- Back channel fixed securely to fascia
- Roof stiffeners for enhanced structural integrity
Optional accessories added for comfort and functionality:
- Outback 3-blade ceiling fan with integrated LED light
- 4 x 5W Cooldek downlights
Colour selections were tailored to complement the shipping containers and match the newly built shed:
- Columns & External Beam – Thunder
- Roof, Gutter, Downpipe & Side Capping – Gun Metal Grey
- Cooldek Ceiling – Off White
Our team managed all installation, delivery, permits (building and planning), fixings, and Domestic Builders Warranty Insurance, ensuring a seamless and compliant build from start to finish. Installation commenced in July 2025 and was completed in August 2025.
The completed space delivers a premium outdoor entertaining area that harmonises with the home’s exterior palette. The insulated Cooldek roof system enhances comfort across all seasons, while integrated lighting and a ceiling fan ensure practical usability day and night.
With clean lines, strong colour contrasts, and a professional finish, the space reflects both quality workmanship and considered design. Gavin is delighted with the result, enjoying his new outdoor oasis every day.
