At All Sheds, we take pride in being the experts you can rely on for practical, down to earth advice. Our experienced team will help you design and build a shed that fits your property, purpose, and style perfectly.
Before you start designing, here’s what our experts recommend thinking about.
1. Bring a Site Plan or Property Map
A site plan helps us understand your block layout and where your shed will sit. This ensures we design a shed that fits the space and identifies if you’ll need Report and Consent from council. The more details you can provide upfront, the smoother the process will be.
2. Think About Shed Height
There’s no “standard” shed height, it all depends on how you’ll use it. Bring in the measurements of what you’ll be storing (cars, caravans, boats, equipment, etc.) and the clearance height you’d like.
Our team will help you determine the right height while accounting for roller doors, which sit slightly lower than the overall shed height.
3. Check for Estate Covenants
If you live in an estate, there may be design rules to follow. These can affect colours, materials, or roof finishes. For example, you might need to use a certain Colorbond® colour or a non-reflective roof.
Bring your covenant details to your appointment, or we can help you check what applies before finalising your design.
4. Will You Need Power?
Knowing if you’ll have power in your shed helps us plan features that rely on it, such as:
- Motorised roller doors
- Lighting vs skylights
- Power points or equipment connections
If you’re not connecting power, skylights and windows become more important for natural light. Because All Sheds offers a complete service, we can also assist with organising power connection to your shed.
5. Plan for Purpose
What will your shed be used for? A workshop, gym, storage space, or something else?
Your answer helps us recommend the right insulation, ventilation, and layout.
For workspaces, we often suggest full insulation to maintain a comfortable temperature year round. For storage, we can design efficient airflow and protection from heat and condensation.
Paul says: The first thing I ask is what you’ll be using your shed for, because that determines so much of the build. My goal is to make sure you get the shed you want and need, not just a standard structure.
6. Match Your Style
If you want your shed to complement your home or an existing structure, bring photos or inspiration to your consultation.
By default, we use Corrugated Colorbond® steel for roofing and 5-Rib Colorbond® steel for walls, proven to deliver a great looking, long lasting shed in any setting.
You can also choose from a wide range of Colorbond® finishes to achieve your desired look.
Damien adds: Nothing we build is standard, every design is custom. My focus is on building a relationship with you and finding the best solution for your space.
7. Assess Your Site
A level site is essential for a strong and stable shed. Let us know if your land slopes or requires groundworks, we can factor that in and organise site preparation if needed.
8. Don’t Forget Permits
Any shed over 10 square metres requires a permit, even on rural or farming properties.
Our team can handle the entire process for you, from documentation to council liaison, so you get the perfect shed with as little stress as possible.
Nick explains: We only use trusted, professional trades to make sure your shed is built right the first time. It’s about taking the stress out of the journey and delivering a result you can rely on.
